Ok, lets load our blog post into our website. Check you have everything ready:
- The blog post
- The featured image
- Any other assets that you will add to the blog post.
Here is a quick guide to loading a blog post, but if you need further help, lets jump on a Zoom call and we’ll share a screen and go through it.
1. Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard
- Go to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin.
- Enter your username and password to log in.
2. Navigate to the Posts Section
- In the left-hand menu, click on Posts.
- Select Add New to start creating a new blog post.
3. Add Your Blog Post Title
- At the top of the editor, enter the Title of your blog post in the field marked “Add Title.”
4. Write or Paste Your Blog Content
- Below the title field, you’ll see the WordPress Block Editor. This is where you will add the content of your post.
- Copy and paste your text from your document.
5. Format Your Post
- Use Blocks: WordPress uses a block system. Each paragraph, image, or heading is a block.
- Add Blocks: To insert new elements like images, headings, or quotes, click the + icon.
- Text Formatting: Select text to add bold, italics, bullet points, or hyperlinks.
- Headings: Use the dropdown to choose heading sizes (e.g., H2, H3) for sections of your post.
6. Add Images
- To insert images into your post, click on the + button and select Image.
- Upload a new image or choose one from your Media Library.
- Add alt text for SEO purposes and accessibility.
7. Set Categories and Tags
- In the right-hand sidebar, you’ll see options to organize your post.
- Categories: Choose or create a category for your post to group it with similar content.
- Tags: Add relevant tags to help readers find your post more easily (optional).
8. Add the Featured Image
- Scroll down the right sidebar until you see Featured Image.
- Click Set Featured Image, and upload or choose an image from your media library. This image will appear as the thumbnail for your post.
9. Preview Your Post
- Click the Preview button at the top right to see how your post will look on your site. You can preview it on desktop, tablet, or mobile views.
10. Optimise SEO (Optional)
- If you have an SEO plugin like Yoast or Rank Math installed, scroll to the SEO section.
- Add a focus keyword, SEO title, and meta description.
- Use the SEO suggestions to improve your ranking potential.
11. Publish Your Post
- Once you’re satisfied, click the Publish button in the top right corner.
- WordPress will ask for confirmation. Click Publish again, and your post will go live on your website.
That’s it, its done. There is one final thing to do: promote this great new blog post onto social media.
